I still remember the first time a protein structure illuminated my screen during the computational biology workshop, the intricate folds and bonds appearing like a secret language I had been striving to decipher for years. In my work at the Supranational TB Reference Laboratory, I handle pathogens that impact communities daily, yet I could only imagine the molecular interactions at play. This workshop didn’t just teach me skills; it gave me vision.

With a background in biomedical sciences and molecular biology, I understood the theory but longed to bridge the gap between observation and innovation. My work on mycobacterial rhomboid protease 2 motivated me to deepen my computational understanding. Before the workshop, I would have rated my knowledge at 3/10; the concepts felt abstract and distant.

Everything changed from the first session. Learning computational tools for protein structure prediction felt like acquiring a new stethoscope to listen to molecular heartbeats. The hands-on sessions, guided by the exceptional mentorship of Ms. Radhika Dalal, brought the science to life. Her patience and clarity transformed complexity into comprehension. Collaborating with peers from different scientific backgrounds added depth to the experience.

Now back in my laboratory, I approach my research with renewed confidence and curiosity. I've progressed from a 3/10 to a solid 6/10 in understanding, but more importantly, I've gained direction. I'm now equipped to integrate computational methods into our rhomboid protease project, asking sharper questions and designing more precise experiments.

The experience is more than personal growth; it’s a stepping stone for capacity building in Uganda. I am already sharing these insights with colleagues, igniting the same excitement. The workshop may have ended, but the journey it inspired continues. It reaffirmed my purpose: to harness science, no matter how complex, in the service of solutions that uplift lives.
