Bio

Bridgett Rios is a Ph.D. student in Infectious Disease and Immunology at University of California, Berkeley working in Dr. Molly Ohainle’s lab. She received her B.A. in Biology with a minor in African Studies from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at Chapel Hill, she worked in Dr. Peggy Cotter’s lab to characterize the genetic mechanisms behind biofilm variation in Burkholderia thailandensis. Her current research focuses on identifying host factors that regulate HIV transcription and latency using HIV-CRISPR screening approaches. Motivated by her grandfather’s work in HIV research and commitment to underserved communities, Bridgett is particularly interested in bridging molecular virology with global health initiatives. Through the CEND fellowship, she hopes to expand international collaborations and develop accessible research training opportunities focused on infectious disease and human health.
